Join JBRPC, Rockaway Film Festival, and Rockaway Bay Coastal Association for an Earth Day cleanup at Dubos Point Wildlife Sanctuary and a free film screening at Arverne Cinema.
Celebrate Earth Day and join the Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy, Rockaway Film Festival, and Rockaway Bay Coastal Association for a cleanup at Dubos Point Wildlife Sanctuary! Join millions of people around the world for Earth Day and help remove debris from this important wetland! The Dubos Point Wildlife Sanctuary is an important natural area in Jamaica Bay, its salt marshes provide habitat for local wildlife and migratory birds and help clean our waterways.
After the cleanup, join us as we head over to Arverne Cinema, next to Rockaway Brewing Co., for a free screening of The Hottest August (2019, 90 min) by Brett Story, preceded by Greywater (2022, 15 min) by Daniel Lombroso from 8 - 10 PM. There will be a post-screening discussion with Greywater director Daniel Lombroso and producers Erik Baard & Yifan Yu. Arverne Cinema is located on Beach 72nd St, Arverne, NY 11692. Register for the screening here!
Information about The Hottest August can be found at https://www.thehottestaugust.com/. In Greywater, a filmmaker sets out to investigate a poaching ring and discovers a tangle of environmental-justice issues in the New York City waterway.
Gloves, bags, and tools will be provided. Volunteers are encouraged to wear weather appropriate clothing and sturdy, closed-toe shoes, and bring their own water and sunscreen. Event is rain or shine.
Please review the Socially Distant Volunteer Guidelines before registering and only register if you are healthy and able to attend. Masks and hand sanitizer will be available.
