Discover Jamaica Bay Tour Series: i-Spy Spring at Bayswater Point

  • Bayswater Point State Park 14-79 Point Breeze Place Far Rockaway, NY, 11691 United States (map)

Did you know? Before becoming a state park, Bayswater Point was the site of "Gatsby style" mansion.

Celebrate Earth Day with JBRPC and New York State Parks on a guided nature walk at Bayswater Point State Park with urban ecologist Marielle Anzelone! Though small, Bayswater Point is mighty with opportunities to explore nature in Jamaica Bay! Take an easy walk along the trails of the park, meandering through shoreline, salt marsh and wooded habitats.

We’ll practice identifying plants using traditional field guides and hand lenses, under the guidance of naturalist Marielle Anzalone. Along our walk, we’ll discuss the outsized role of native species of trees and shrubs in supporting critters that visit Bayswater Point State Park. We’ll search for budding plants and newly arrived migrating birds, while taking in beautiful views of the Bay and enjoying the spring weather!

All attendees will leave with a free copy of JBRPC’s Common Plants and Pollinators of Jamaica Bay and Rockaway: A Field Guide, and new skills to identify the plants and animals who live around us!

The Discover Jamaica Bay Tour Series is generously supported by Hornblower, the operator of NYC Ferry.
