Did You Know? There’s a community dock at Paerdegat Basin where you can learn the sport of rowing!
Join the Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy and Row New York for a free rowing lesson at the Paedergat Basin Community Dock. Rowing is for everybody, 14 years and older, no swimming ability required.
Enjoy the peace of being in calm and protected Paedergat Basin, and experience Jamaica Bay in a new way. You'll learn the fundamentals of rowing, a sport that is not always accessible to the public. The lesson will begin on land, using rowing machines to learn the technique and terms of rowing, before getting out on the water on a stable barge.
The expert, water safety-trained coaches at Row NY have been making the sport of rowing accessible to New Yorkers of all ages and abilities since their founding in 2002. Participants should expect to get splashed, and are advised to wear spandex/ clothes with a tight fit, that won't get in the way during rowing. If you have a yoga mat, please bring it along for a guided stretch before and after your session. Light refreshments will be provided.
This event is part of JBRPC's Discover Jamaica Bay Tour Series, and generously supported by Hornblower, the operator of NYC Ferry.
