Join us for our author talk series at Floyd Bennett Field and learn about this history of this iconic site!

Visit Floyd Bennett Field's former terminal building (now the historic Ryan Visitor Center) for the first of two author talks on the history of New York's first municipal airport and the communities that have made use of the site. Our first event, "Jimmie Mattern, Wiley Post, and the Race Around the World" will feature a discussion with journalist Adam Penenberg, Mattern descendent Shelby Scarbrough, and New York City tour guide Lloyd Trufelman. Mr. Penenberg will discuss his magazine piece Cloud Racers, which details the harrowing story of solo aviators Mattern and Post as they competed to become the first to circumnavigate the globe by plane 90 years ago this summer.

Floyd Bennett Field, Revealed! is a series of free events brought to you by Gateway National Recreation Area and Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy as part of an initiative to activate the park as a premier destination for recreation and enjoyment of nature. This events is co-sponsored by Brooklyn and Queens Public Libraries.
